from BALLE Vision

(The World We Want)

Within a generation, we envision a global system of human-scale, interconnected Local Living Economies that function in harmony with local ecosystems, meet the basic needs of all people, support just and democratic societies, and fosters joyful community life."

  • The Bellingham chapter is part of an international network of "local living economies" - not local at all.
  • Focus includes "resource allocation" and social justice through sustainable business models.
  • The big current focus is to create local "social  finance" resources (loan programs).

Part of a national organization founded in 2001, BALLE promotes sustainability by using a "chamber of commerce" strategy and appearance to promote “local production and consumption," via a network of conforming businesses willing to commit to preferred employment policies and "deep green" practices.  The ideology of man-created climate change is a given, and it seeks a “post-carbon” world.   The long term goal is to change America's economic, cultural, and social fabric toward post-capitalist global lateralism.

Key terminology:   “triple bottom line” (profits, people, and planet); "true democracy."

Heavily influenced by anti-capitalist and global political theorists including David Korten (video), and Naomi Kline, author of “The Shock Doctrine”  (video)
