The Herald Makes it Dead Simple!

Over the weekend, the Bellingham Herald endorsed Rud Browne, Barry Buchanan, Ken Mann and Carl Weimer, saying (and WE quote) "[Kershner, Elenbaas, Knutzen and Luke] want government to "get out of the way" at a time when more is required."  (Emphasis ours.)

The Bellingham Herald has unwittingly made voters' choice dead simple.

If you want your life here to be governed more, vote for Browne, Buchanan, Mann and Weimer.

If you want this area's government to have tangible limits, vote for Kershner, Elenbaas, Knutzen and Luke.

The rhetorical goal was, as always, the mobilization of partisan bias:  to identify restraint as outside the mainstream.

Allow us to share one basic principle about government:  Up to a certain point, government services actually do provide more freedom and self-determination when they're carefully contained. Government work that serves essential needs more efficiently than we could meet them alone allows us to attend to our own endeavors without being unduly or unjustly burdened. But beyond that point, government crosses the line to burdensome and oppressive governance. Instead of leaving us free to mind our own business, government starts sticking its nose into our business. WE believe government crossed into the realm of oppressive governance a long time ago.

There have always been loopy blue laws, but WE thought the nation got past most some time ago. Alas, the lust to rule seems like a hiccup in human nature.  Take a trip to the Nanny State and explore how easily good intentions slip to petty tyranny, and "nudge" becomes "shove."  The appetites of some to govern is a wonder to behold.

If personal and civil liberty mean little to you, and the thought of a ballooning local bureaucratic state seems safe - well, you know who to vote for.  The Herald told you so.

Could this problem be solved with more freedom, instead of less? ~ Penn Jillette

The four faces plastered on the corner windows of the Herald building clearly state the newspapers democrat bias. Add to the above concerns that the non binding agreement announced 0n 28th between the west/left coast governors and BC to stamp out atmospheric carbon bespeaks an enormously expensive west/left coast Cap and Trade deal - another blow to any furtherance of prosperity and good jobs ever returning. Take action and vote for the people who will put our interests above ideology , Kathy, Michelle, Bill and Ben.

I know this is a free market idea, so you might have trouble with understanding it, child of ww2, but the Bellingham Herald building is not owned by the Bellingham Herald. The newspaper rents the space, just like Whatcom Wins - so the fact that they have the same landlord does not mean that the newspaper has a Democratic bias . . . and anyone who has read any articles by Ralph Schwartz will see he is anything but a flaming a liberal.

One question just to better understand the depths of Riley Sweeney's bias, being that Riley Sweeney is a local democratic party official;

The recent smear of local conservative's candidates by the blood red flyers with cow carcases hanging on them by our local democratic party; did that have the blessing of Riley Sweeney or would Riley like to defend such a smear and really show us his bias?

Hey Riley, If Kathy Kershner or Bill Knutzen were under PDC for the same thing, you could bet on it The Herald would not only report on it immediately, they would run frequent headlines specifically describing the factors. I don't believe Ralph's claim for a second that the policy would be to wait till the conclusion of the investigation. In the Oct. 7th story " Progressives, conservatives look for dirty laundry in county campaigns" Ralph essentailly reports on PDC regarding Mann, of course sparing the details while attempting to present a case that both parties have their issues as if Mann's situation is no different or comparable. Once WE reported it, Ralph wrote about it, to say he did, knowing the cat was out of the bag. Ralph intentionally blended the Mann PDC issue with other alike news to avoid having to print a headline specifically describing or exposing Mann during an election, which as journalist is his responsibilty. While I certainly can't accuse each and every Herald staffer, it is fair to say that The Herald, collectivley is no different than the mainstream media. The Herald doesn't "lean left" it is not kind of liberal, it is corrupt in that it conspires to push a narrative and progressive agenda. One could provide endless examples of their bias. I would point out that The Herald did not wait for the conclusion of an ethics panel investigation on Doug Ericksen for accepting to many free meals, all the while running this headline and story for the better part of a week and including it in the " In case you missed it" section. This is nothing comparable to Ken Mann's situation, but The Herald made sure to expose this. Free meals! Oh the humanity! Of course the real truth of the matter is Ericksen is frequently engaged, doing his job. The Herald, like most media is today, filters information and prints headlines and stories to fullfill the progressive agenda. This is why the P.I. is no longer in print and Times is, although not a great deal of difference. This new age strategy undermines and defeats the purpose of journalism and has caused a great deal of damage to our country. Ralph Schwartz and The Herald have been complicit, and I make absolutely no apologies for pointing this out.

I think it is humanly impossible for a reporter to be completely impartial. The only way I know for a newspaper to be impartial would be to implement an affirmative action hiring program, in which they hire equal numbers of reporters and editors from all over the political spectrum.

Either that, or duke it out in the free market of ideas: For every Fox news network, we could have ten liberal networks, just like we do now.

The pictures, or more to the point, the rogues gallery on the Herald building may not be indicative of their employees' stance on the issues that affect all of us. But, I can speak to the truth, having been on the inside a few years ago. This was during the time when Rush Limbaugh was having his Oxycontin addiction problems if you wish to backtrack the years.

I worked in the area where the newspaper is composed and readied for print. At most of the proofreader's and production people's computer stations were crude cartoons made to degrade conservative politicians and prominent "right thinking" public figures. You might see an anti Republican bumper sticker pinned to a cubicle wall or some other piece of hand-made, computer generated slime that gave no doubt as to the occupant's "progressive" views.

One afternoon after talking about the politics of the day with the only other proofreader in my department on the night shift, I noticed one of the female sales people sitting with her ear cocked in our direction, taking it all in. She approached me later that evening and said, basically, that because there were only the three of us conservatives working in the building, that we should keep our views hidden lest we end up having other employees retaliate against us.

I took it with a grain of salt, but continued making my views known and ready to debate any comers. The hatred for conservatives was palpable within the walls of the Herald, up close and personal.

Just look what a newspaper becomes when it stays on one side of the road. The Bellingham Herald is a wimpy shadow of its former self. Nothing more than a thin daily circular with shallow reporting and articles cut and pasted from the national news services.

Even though I disagree with the other leftist rag in Whatcom county, the Cascadia Weekly, I prefer to read it rather than he Herald. In addition, the Herald costs much more than it is worth for a daily copy, The Weekly charges you exactly what it's worth to read it. But, I will be the first one to say that the Weekly usually goes into great depth in its articles and does a great job reporting local events and is worth a read while slugging down a triple tall latte at any of the downtown places filling your cup with hot bean juice. Unlike many liberals in this great little city, I as a conservative am willing to read about what they have to say and mean them noill will. As a matter of fact, I am constantly giving my self a personal "fact check" and try to remember that, if you look ast the vilifications of the right and left, we all basically want the same things in life.

I certainly don't want to see our precious coal shipped to China, huge slaughterhouse operations, mercury laden waters (not to mention Fukushima irradiated seawaters), GMOs or dirty air making its way from the environment into my body. But what I do want is to see local politics elevated to a level that allows all points of view to be considered without mudslinging and BS that taints the recipient as well as the thrower.

I was perusing the Whatcom Tea Party website when I found a link to the Whatcom Excavator. I have it bookmarked now just under the Drudge Report when I open my laptop for my morning news. This is a great site. Keep it up!

Thanks for the heads up along with Dillon on KGMI. It is clear, if we sit at home and don't vote in our county election this year the steady march toward government dominance will take a giant leap forward, right here in our backyard.

Sweeny lad, it doesn't matter one iota whether or not the Herald owns the building - it is an established icon of downtown Bellingham and inextricably connected to the poor old moribund suicidal Herald and its liberal slant.- sic transit Gloria -
