Voter Alienation, Anyone?

11/2/2013

WE see that the Whatcom Tea Party took exception to the mean spirited Democrat party mailers that have been going out to voters in the past few days. You may be one of the unlucky recipients of one or more of these spit bombs.

The mild mannered law-abiding "We The People" crowd responded politely to the gross misrepresentations by posting a piece entitled What's Wrong With This Picture? where they wrote,

The Whatcom Tea Party objects to being used to smear honorable candidates. The candidates being smeared here have not been running as Tea Party candidates. We wish the Democrats would have left us out of this. We are a non-partisan organization. Non-partisan does not mean unprincipled, but we deliberately do not endorse or disparage any candidates.
Here's the distorted picture of the Tea Party fabricated by the Whatcom Democrats:
Picture
The article patiently explained how government can and should work for us, and that they object when it works against us. WE tend to agree.

But wait! There's more! In a second article, What's Wrong With This Other Picture?, they repeated the same preamble, but over a blood red slaughterhouse picture. Here they caught on that perhaps these mailers meant (in a vicious way) to intimidate voters; that the Democrats may want to so disgust the "undecideds" about local politics and the process that they won't vote at all.  This material is so ugly it just may alienate some from wanting to exercise their rights.

Here's the factually-absurd slaughterhouse mailing, for the morbidly curious:
Picture
On the Whatcom Tea Party facebook page, they suggested that if you find candidates' campaigns disgusting, send back a strong message by way of your ballot.

WE love it!  That's exactly what elections are for.  The public has got to reject this bloodstained bomb-throwing tactic.  It's too low for a civil society to accept.

Rewarding partisan ugliness with with positions of power would be oh so wrong. Is that the Whatcom County you want to live in?

Did you see that rot on the first mailer? "Will block opportunities to create new parks and maintain existing parks."

Are you freaking kidding me? We have more parks in this county than the next ten counties combined! Candidates or tea partiers haven't been very effective at preventing the creation of parks in these parts. What's more, if the parks aren't being maintained, it can only be due to the incontrovertible fact that we have far more park land than a decade of deficit spending could support.

I guess you can say anything if the low-information voter doesn't bother to fact check anything. But taking advantage of stupid people really isn't honorable. Are Whatcom Democrats really that scummy?

Scummy is as scummy does. If you read Sweeney you know the pack takes real joy in low blows and bottom feeding. The stretchers and lies they tell are awful.

No "truth in advertising" law applies to politics. Ralph Schwartz at the Herald wrote that "All's fair" in politics. Does that excuse falsehoods? Is that how politics is supposed to work, where the biggest liars win?

This year the Democrats sure have revealed how unethical they are, and not even remotely worthy of the public trust.

First of all, thank you for reading Lyndenite. Where do you feel I take joy in bottom feeding? I do enjoy the give and take of politics, just like a well-played sports game (i.e., not yesterday's Seahawks game where our Defense decided to just sleep through the first three quarters).

If you want to point to any lies or "stretchers" on my blog, I will gladly correct them. I make every effort to ensure that all the material on The Political Junkie is factually accurate.

Riley you are an official of the Whatcom democrats (on their executive board); do you condone the smears they(you) did and would you like to defend them.

Oh BTW in sports its called a cheap shot and it can be found being done by players with little character sometimes they get called for it and sometimes not however cheap shots do prove that you are a person of little character or integrity and anything you say or do should always be weighed with that fact.

For some reason, I can't reply directly to Comrade X, weird.

I am the vice-chair of the local Dems, I was not directly involved in designing the mailers but I did critique them over on my site. You can read my thoughts here: http://sweeneypolitics.com/2013/10/28/analyzing-whatcom-mailers-2013/

But I still haven't heard Lyndenite back up their claim. Lyndenite said that I lied - I'm saying prove it. If there is something untrue or undocumented on my blog, I take it down or provide documentation.

And yes, sometimes I do take cheap shots - but they are backed up by facts.

Lies and half truths are not facts.

But let’s go a little deeper, what kind of person or persons would smear honorable people with lies and half truths just in the name of politics, you see you may disagree about people's politics but there is a way to campaign honorably and then there is gutters politics.

The local democratic party and its leaders for all to see and recognized can now be said to live in the gutter; a place where rats and garbage can be found.

For their behavior, they are in good company and most likely are very happy about it; just as the other vermin that can be found in the gutter with them.

One thing in this piece jumped out at me: The photograph of Michelle Luke is my image, and I certainly did not grant permission to the Democrats for its use.

Thank you for the article. It is difficult for good people to combat lies. It is difficult for good people to combat misrepresentations. Especially if our news media stays silent the silent majority does not exercise its right to vote.

Well, the Democrat voting machine has made the sheeple think that they have spoken, so I suppose the illiberal regressive agenda will proceed apace, and the sheeple deserve to get it good and hard.

I won't call it Agenda 21, because that just invites ridicule, but it is essentially the same agenda, even if the UN isn't driving it. They don't need to. The participation is there, whether people realize they're participating or not.

Mark my words, (hear me now and believe me later) the nation, our community, and ultimately the environment will be poorer as a result. Maybe not in selected, special circumstances, but overall.
